Shopify Powers More than 100,000 Stores in 150 Countries

Announces new Shopify Plus enterprise merchants

OTTAWA, ON – April 22, 2014 - Shopify, the commerce platform that allows anyone to easily sell online, at their retail location, and everywhere in between, today announced that it now powers more than 100,000 businesses.

“This is a huge milestone for us. The first Shopify store was actually my own. Almost a decade ago, I wanted to sell snowboards online. The options for shopping carts were either extremely expensive, or painfully complicated,” said Tobias Lütke, Founder and CEO, Shopify. “Eventually this frustration was channeled into creating Shopify. We set out on a mission: to make ecommerce easier and more affordable, so that anyone could start their own online store.”

Shopify is now home to businesses from over 150 countries around the world. The company hosts small mom-and-pop shops, bit brands like Google and Tesla, and everything in between. To date, Shopify merchants have sold almost 4 billion dollars worth of products.

Shopify also announced new customers who have signed on to Shopify Plus including: Herschel, Todd Snyder, Band of Outsiders, SHOEme.ca, among many others. Shopify Plus is a new enterprise offering that the company officially launched in January 2014.

“Since launching Shopify Plus, the response has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Harley Finkelstein, Chief Platform Officer, Shopify. “Not only have we transitioned existing Shopify customers that started their businesses with us, but larger companies and brands have started to recognize our platform’s capabilities and scalability.”
